What is the VERY BEST protection software for a PC?

galactic129 asked:

…so one would NEVER have to worry about any security issues online (hack attacks; hackers seeing your info, files; spyware; viruses; worms; etc.) Is there such software that I can buy for my new PC? I don’t want to worry about those mundane and unproductive things, as every PC user shouldn’t.

Knowledgeable answers only please! Thanks a lot.

Get Linux- It’s a free operating system and it NEVER gets any of these. Ever.

Get a Mac, and you wont have to worry about any of those things.
But for PC, there’s no magic solution. The best solution is knowing
how to avoid bad stuff one the net. This site has a list of free tools
    and tips on avoid spyware/adware.

This is really a matter of opinion, experts would give you a variety of answers…but based on my experience with home and office computers I would say McAfee Internet Security Suite. There are 4 components included: VirusScan, Personal Firewall Plus, Privacy Service, and SpamKiller. And the price for all this is reasonable.

The VERY BEST is to get away from Windows. It is prevalent, targetted, vulnerable and badly coded. So move to Linux or Mac (Unix).

If that is not possible, you certainly need to do several things: anti-cirus, anti-spyware, disable cookies, Yahoo beacon and PIE (Flash).

It is like real life, you need multiple protections

Even if you don’t need it, look at a wired router. There are inexpensive routers with SPI and NAT firewalls built in. It’s not perfect protection, but it’s a good start.

Check out Norton Internet Security 2007. I honestly believe it’s the best in the business. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good start.

The best Antispyware software in the world is free. Download AD-Aware and Spybot, keep them updated, and run them once a week.

Be careful about what sites you visit, what you download, and even which e-mails you open. Use Windows Update to get security updates. If you use an alternate browser like firefox, there are security updates for that, too.
